The 1 1/4-mile turf stakes is the centerpiece of Arlington Park's annual race meet. The victory helped propel Cape Blanco to the Eclipse Award as last year's champion male turf runner. Two years earlier Gio Ponti won the Million and garnered Eclipse Awards as top older male and champion turf male thoroughbred. Gio Ponti finished second in the race the last two years. The Million is part of the Breeders' Cup "Win and You're In" program where the victorious horse gains automatic entry into the Breeders' Cup Turf. Arlington Park's 2012 meeting will get underway on Friday, May 4 and conclude on Sunday, September 30.
