Interstate rivals meet in St. Louis, as Illinois battles Missouri
NCAA Basketball Betting Lines
12/23/2008 -
St. Louis, MO (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Scottrade Center in St. Louis is the
sight of the 28th Annual Busch Braggin' Rights game between the Illinois Fighting Illini and the 25th-ranked Missouri Tigers.
Illinois has won four straight games to improve to 10-1, and the only loss
thus far came by just two points against Clemson. The Illini crushed Detroit
on Saturday by an 82-51 final, and they did win their only true road game to
date over Vanderbilt. Illinois competes in the Big Ten Conference, and that
league appears to be up for grabs this season.
As for Missouri, a Big 12 team, it will face much better clubs during the
course of its league season. The Tigers have reason to be optimistic, however,
as they are 9-1 overall and have won seven straight decisions. They were most
recently in action on Saturday when they knocked off Stetson by a 78-44
margin, and their most impressive victory to date came over USC on a neutral
court.
Illinois owns a 26-12 all-time series lead over Missouri, including eight
straight victories over the Tigers.
Illinois has been a tremendous defensive team, as it is limiting opponents to
just 55.8 on 39.4 percent shooting from the field. At the offensive end of the
court, the Illini are posting 71.9 ppg on 48.6 percent shooting, including
39.1 percent from three-point range. Mike Davis leads the Illini with 13.0
ppg, and he is pulling down 8.2 rpg. Demetri McCamey provides 12.4 ppg to go
along with 53 assists, and Trent Meachem checks in with 10.9 ppg. Rounding out
a foursome of double-digit scorers is Mike Tisdale with his 10.4 ppg. In the
31-point romp over Detroit on Saturday, Tisdale and Meachem scored 15 points
apiece, as they combined to shoot 12-of-14 from the floor. Calvin Brock added
12 points off the bench for the Illini, who connected on 64.4 percent of their
field goal attempts, including 11-of-18 from three-point range. Defensively,
the squad forced 18 turnovers and permitted only 39.2 percent shooting from
the floor.
DeMarre Carroll is the leading scorer for Missouri, as he nets 17.6 ppg on
59.3 percent shooting from the floor to go with 7.3 rpg. Leo Lyons adds 16.2
ppg to the mix on 52.8 percent shooting, and he is pulling down 7.2 rpg. The
Tigers are generating 86.3 ppg while holding the opposition to 64.4 ppg on 39
percent shooting from the floor. In the romp over Stetson last time out,
Carroll led a balanced attack with 14 points. Matt Lawrence provided 12
points, and Justin Safford pitched in 10 off the bench. The Tigers connected
on 50.8 percent of their field goal attempts in the tilt and finished with 20
assists against only nine turnovers. A 48-37 rebounding advantage also helped
the cause. Defensively, Missouri limited Stetson to 27.1 percent field goal
efficiency.

Stanley Cup betting
New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.
The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.
MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.
Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.

NFL Football Trash Talk
Trash talk has a place in every competitive endeavor (except baseball; those stirrup-wearers are too busy chewing on their sunflower seeds and their supplements to worry about what their opponents are doing).
Fantasy sports is no exception. Any intelligent discussion of the subject
would probably start with a thesis statement or a definition of terms.
Thankfully, this wont be an intelligent discussion.
Let me just say that I am happy to take a place in this space alongside my talented colleagues, even our commissioner. (You should see how she bleats like a demented paper boy about league fees on our fantasy site).
Trash talking, I would argue, is primarily about amusing your friends,
their sheeplike demeanors and sloping foreheads notwithstanding. The best place I have found for football trash talking is at www.SportsAlarm.com.
Beyond the entertainment factor, though, I would recognize that the
sophomoric ritual has one advantage, when properly applied. It magnifies
your fantasy triumphs and mitigates your fantasy failures by transforming
the eventual point total into an afterthought. Winning makes it seem like
your opponent really is a truss-owning, lapel-pin-wearing nitwit. And in
defeat, trash talk can be the air bag to break the fall from your
hyperbolic heights. The plug-necked yahoos on your team, you can say,
will be sacking groceries by the end of the season.
The best trash talk, in my view, is layered and nuanced. And it doesnt
focus only on your opponents team. It picks apart your opponent. The idea
is to create a shock-and-awe-scale blizzard of nonsense, and the goal is to
make your opponent drop his hands from his keyboard in exasperation.
What team does your opponent root for? Accuse a Giants fan of having a Joe Namath pillowcase. Wheres your opponent from? Give a look of concern no matter his reply, then say, I'll try to type slower for you next time. Is your opponent into politics? Label everyone a tax-and-spend corporate shill.
Cap all that with a liberal application of irrelevance. For instance, dont just conclude by saying your opponent is a twerp who drafts like my grandmother. Say that your opponent is a sweater-wearing, eyebrow-plucking twerp who drafts his team about as well as Zsa Zsa Gabor gave acceptance speeches at the Oscars. By the time your foe makes sense of that, his starting running back will have had puppies.
But what about you? Hmm? Recall a memorable slam? Have a tried-and-true technique? Know someone who seems impervious to insult? Take a moment and tells us about it. Put together some (fit-for-publication) thoughts. You wont be too busy returning phone messages from your friends, Im sure, to reply.
In addition to the trash talking, the Sports Alarm has a huge gallery of high resolution pictures of beautiful women and models in bikinis. The most popular models are: Lindsay Lohan, Carrie Underwood, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Paris Hilton.
